"There are two kinds of people in this world: Those that enter a room and turn the television set on, and those that enter a room and turn the television set off." ~Raymond Shaw in the original Manchurian Candidate
unfortunately, i am one of the latter. baseball tonight and back-to-back-to-back episodes of law and order are my kryptonite.

I have to laugh. Some friends of mine are moving into their first house soon and are purposely putting the TV in one of the back rooms rather than the living room because they "don't want the TV to become the focal point of the room" and "want people to actually talk to one another rather than stare at the TV." That's fine, but who says the TV has to be on when guests come over? And what kind of person comes over to someone's house and turns on the TV without being invited to do so? -krista
um, in reply to the last question, i do. every time i sit down on the wilcox's couch i kick my feet up (whether they are encrusted with dog shit or not), pick up my favorite rock and turn the T.V. to the daystar network. where else can you see a deformed puppett crooning carman's "the red, white and blue?"
Even as I was writing that, I was thinking that you are probably the exception and it's pretty much expected of you to actually turn on the TV when you are a guest in someone's house. I should send you to my friend's house, just to watch his head explode when you do that. -krista
